Sue Jakobek

Managing Director
Sue has led PPL since its early days in 2016, and was instrumental in driving the project forwards to its strong London Market position today.  She has broad experience of digital transformation projects across various sectors and a keen understanding of the challenges faced by the London Market as it works to modernise. Sue was previously Chief Operating Officer at Adsensa, the market leader in contract data discovery, capture and analytics. Sue has worked extensively in marketing and sales across the technology sector, having previously held roles with companies including HP, Oracle and AT&T for whom she initiated and oversaw its UK national internet strategy.  She also led Ordnance Survey’s nationwide migration to digital mapping.

Colin O'Malley

Head of Operations

Colin is Head of Operations and has been at PPL since its beginning, having been brought in to get the platform off the ground. Colin has wide-ranging experience across the insurance spectrum in underwriting, operations and IT, including significant experience of setting up e-trading platforms within the insurance industry, as well as outside it. He has previously worked for Hiscox, Ace and Lloyd’s.

Andy Woolley

Product & Practice Manager

Andy been at PPL since 2015.  His responsibilities are wide ranging, including the life cycle of PPL service, investment planning and developing the platform in accordance with Board agreed strategy.

Andy’s background is in business consulting – he has more than 30 years’ experience in the London insurance market and has held roles at QBE, JLT, Marsh and Lloyd’s, among others.  This has provided him with a peerless understanding of the workings of (re)insurance processes, market dynamics and the support needed by firms as they transition to use e-placing.

When he’s not working, Andy is Chairman of his local Parish Council and is a season ticket holder for Brighton & Hove Albion Football club.

Caroline Klein

Marketing & Communications

Caroline is responsible for marketing and communications at PPL, promoting the platform’s services to the market through various channels. She joined PPL in 2019 before which she was Head of Marketing and Communications at Canopius Group, successfully managing the group’s rebrand and MBO communications, among other projects.  Previously she spent nine years at the European arm of Daiwa Securities and has worked in various communications and marketing roles for nearly 20 years.  Caroline has spent a number of years living and working in Japan and likes to compare and contrast sushi restaurants across London in her spare time.

Jonathan joined PPL in 2015, defining and leading the roll out of PPL to the London Market.  His effort was recognised at the 2018 Market People Awards when he won the category for Outstanding Contribution to Industry Transformation.  With the roll out complete, he is now responsible for the PPL onboarding team that provides ongoing support for member firms, onboarding services for new joiners to the platform and our training capabilities. Jonathan is a former business analyst specialising in digital transformation and is used to working on complex programmes. He has held roles across the insurance industry, including at Beazley, Hiscox, Direct Line and ACE.

Charles Clarke

Market Engagement Lead

Charles is responsible for managing relationships with market firms and acts as point of contact for PPL service related matters. He heads a team of relationship managers, working to ensure smooth on-boarding and adoption of new firms and users, as well as managing day to day service. Charles’ team works particularly hard ensuring that users are optimising electronic placement and that carriers are able to submit accurate reports that enable mandate rebates.

Charles joined PPL in 2019 from Willis Towers Watson, where he spent eight years and previously held roles at Cooper Gay and Windsor Partners, among others.  He has broad experience across client relationship management, strategy and business development in the London (re)insurance market, having placed business emanating from over 50 countries. When he’s not working, Charles enjoys cycling around the Kent countryside, playing tennis and spending time improving his street photography

Gill Runciman

Service Manager

Gill has been with PPL since 2016, and in her role as Service Manager is responsible for ensuring effective operation of the platform and managing service aligned to ITIL disciplines, including incident management, availability, capacity and service levels etc. Starting out in underwriting and then moving to IT, Gill has worked in the (re)insurance market for almost 20 years, including roles at Hiscox, Aspen and Gen Re.

When not working, Gill enjoys travelling, social events and is known to be a bit of a shopaholic!

Ben Howell

Technical and Change Manager

Ben is charged with technical change and delivery at PPL. His job ranges across vendor management, software development, change management and market engagement. He joined PPL in mid-2016 before which he was a project manager in the JLT central operations team. Previously he served for 23 years in the British Army, leaving as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2016. He served with airborne and commando forces and deployed on operations in the Balkans, Middle-East and Afghanistan.

Ben is a Training and Education panel member for Crisis, the homeless charity, and a committee member of the Lloyd’s Military Network, helping ex-military transition into the London insurance market.

Martin Baker

Market Engagement

Martin is part of the team responsible for market engagement at PPL, liaising with both carriers and brokers.  Martin has been in the insurance market for over twenty years, including broking roles as at Arthur J Gallagher and Marsh. Before joining PPL in November 2015, he was a stakeholder manager at Lloyd’s.

When not working, Martin likes to be in the great outdoors, enjoying a cycle ride or a good walk.

Andrew Owen

Market Engagement

Andrew is part of the team responsible for market engagement at PPL, liaising with both carriers and brokers. He joined PPL in 2018, before which he was D&O Underwriter at China Re.  He has worked in both underwriting and broking roles for over 20 years within the London market. In his spare time Andrew enjoys skiing, cycling and occasional vets rugby (knees permitting).
