Robotics application provokes lively discussion at first LM TOM Talks event
The first in a series of TOM Talks on modernisation, a priority for the London Market, took place in late April. Over 40 market practitioners took part in a lively debate on the practical application of Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
Adrian Thornycroft, Programme Director, LM TOM, opened the event and welcomed guest speakers Roger Oldham, LM Forums, Bryn Barlow, Partner ISG, Keri Smith, Head of Automation ISG, and Nicholas Austen, Senior Business Analyst, Marsh.
Nicholas painted a vivid picture of the experience of implementing robotics in a live business situation, prompting both strategic and operational questions from the audience. This lead to a thought-provoking discussion which involved the entire panel.
Attendees said that they found the talk both useful and insightful. Hugh Maltby, Operations Director, Markel International, commented: “It was helpful to hear the practical experience of firms in the market and how RPA can be a good alternative to full systems integration.”
Steve Lague, Business Partner, Business Change, MS Amlin, added: “It was interesting to see how RPA is being applied within the insurance broker industry and to share insights with other brokers and carriers. No surprise to find that we are all addressing the same types of issues! I look forward to the next talk.”
Look out for details of the next TOM Talk, coming soon.
